December 2008 Update and SEO Guide

2008 marked thousands of hours spent in front of the computer by Ioan Elvis Sersea aka MaestroSersea, in efforts to build the online component of Teach Me Help Educational Services.
As of December, 2008, over 500 domains have been purchased, and hundreds of free hosting services and websites have been published on the internet.
Vali and Michael have been patiently waiting for Elvis to finish his 2nd online Masters program, this time in English, and to work on the online services he's been working on for over one year.
Michael is now well, going to Kindergarden here , working towards the Green Belt in his Tae Kwon Do class, and reading voraciously each evening. He's thriving and a fun kid to be around.
Vali is completing her real estate courses and continues to work part time in the Admissions and Records office at the local college.
The next article will be dedicated exclusively to the family.

Here are some helpful tips on making your online presence more successful:

Top 10 Tips To Effective Search Engine Optimization, Submission And Promotion
Make sure your web site looks attractive

Have it built by a professional (unless you are a web designer) if possible after all it is your business and your web impression is very important to the perspective customer looking at it. even online a first impression makes all the difference on if someone visiting stays and then buys or runs away never to return. If you do build it your self use a site buider tool to help guide you. (We provide SiteStudio with every hosting plan - Demo)

Create up-to-date content-rich pages that provide useful information

Creating content-rich web pages that contain useful information will not only help you with your search engine rankings, it will also please your visitors. Web-crawlers will visit your site more frequently as will your visitors if your content is updated regularly. So, if you want your web pages ranked well in the search engine listings, the most significant thing you can do is to provide ample valuable content.

Be sure your website is focused

Cater to your visitors needs - don't throw in a free-for-all links program or forum to just attract traffic - in the long run this will pay-off as you website will be recognized for what it is.

Establish relevant links from authoritative sites

Today’s search engines place an enormous amount of importance on the number of websites that link to yours. It’s not just about the number of links, it’s about the quality of those links as well. Search engines look at the context of the incoming links—the relevancy of the content of the two sites. Search engines also look at the significance of the site linking to yours. For example, your site will get a higher ranking if CNN.com or Fortune.com link to it as opposed to your Uncle Mike’s neighbor’s personal home page.

Submit your site to top directories

Submitting your site to reputable online directories will help your rankings with the major search engines. This includes primary directories like DMOZ, Yahoo! and About.com as well vertical directories, like FindLaw.com, Realtor.com and Business.com. Make sure you read the submission guidelines of each directory carefully before submitting your web pages. It is also important to ensure that you place your site in the correct category of each directory.

Validate your code

Search engine crawlers like “clean” code. They are able to scan accurate code much faster and easier without stumbling over erroneous tags and other errors. It can be extremely beneficial to validate your website code before publishing—it will produce better indexing results. (Use W3C - it's free)

Take care in the choice and placement of relevant keywords

Although, keywords are no longer the only factor determining a site’s rankings, selecting the right keywords or keyword phrases is key to generating traffic to your site. You need to choose keywords that people are actually using in order for your prospective visitors to find your website. Once defined, include those keyword phrases in your title tags, meta description, meta keyword tags and throughout the text of your website for optimal search engine rankings.

Use a Hidden Title

This is the first of three critical items that are coded in the "Head" of every web page. It is the first thing a search engine sees at the top of your page. While this title is visible on browsers, most people ignore it. I've seen great sites that have no title at all! Use 3-8 words that describe what you do and flag your site for the search engines.

Keep your site up to date

Stay on the edge of your profession by reading through articles, forums and related guides - remember promotion a site requires a lot of time and patience. You have to keep working on it. Keep up on what search engines want if you want to stay in the top 20.

Be Patient

It can take anywhere from 1 week to 6 months to be indexed in the big search engines and directories. Don't expect miracles overnight. Keep checking every week and be patient. Continue to add quality content to your site.
